Jersey, The Island that Exceeded our expectations. A 3-Day UK Staycation Guide
From clifftop lighthouses and hidden beaches to German wartime bunkers, vineyard tastings and Michelin-starred dining, Jersey ended up being one of the most surprising trips we’ve taken this year. Ok, so it’s not technically in the UK, but it is a British Isle so we hopped on the plane to discover more of this tiny island that combines so many of the things we love!
If you’re looking for an easy escape that feels far more “abroad” than it should, this is how we’d recommend doing it.
Why Jersey?
The biggest surprise about Jersey is how much variety it packs into such a small space.
You can be standing on dramatic coastal cliffs in the morning, swimming in sheltered coves by lunch, and eating Michelin-starred food by evening. It has a mix of British familiarity with just enough French influence to feel like you’ve properly escaped we kept saying this is what happens when Cornwall meets France….a pretty incredible mix!
It’s also incredibly easy to get to just a short flight from London or Manchester — which makes it ideal for a long weekend.
Where We Stayed
The Club Hotel & Spa, St Helier
We based ourselves at The Club Hotel & Spa Jersey, which turned out to be the perfect central base for a weekend where you want to explore as much of the island as possible.
It’s small, boutique and in St Helier, but the real highlight is how well it balances relaxation and location.
What stood out:
It’s home to one of the island’s standout dining experiences, Bohemia.
Indoor spa facilities (perfect after long coastal walks)
Outdoor pool for slow afternoons
Beautiful hydrangea lined terrace
Comfortable, modern rooms
Easy access to restaurants and the harbour
Easy access to the superb bus routes that can take you all over the island…no car needed here.
Where We Ate
So, we didn’t realsie just how much of a food scene there is in Jersey and let’s just say, everywhere we ate was incredible. We’d definitely head back for a stand alone foodie weekend.
Michelin-Starred Dinner
The standout moment of the trip was dinner at Bohemia.
This is the island’s Michelin-starred restaurant, and it genuinely lives up to the reputation. The experience feels refined without being overly formal, and the tasting menu is one of those meals you’ll still be thinking about long after you’ve left.
It’s also conveniently located within The Club Hotel & Spa, which makes it even easier to plan into your stay.
Brunch in St Helier
Recommended to us by a local, we started our trip at Locke’s, a relaxed brunch spot that was perfect for our first stop after landing. It set the tone for the weekend, unhurried, simple, local but just a little different with a twist on everything.
Casual Dinner in the Market at Tavola
Another local recommendation that paved to be right. On one of the nights, we kept things low-key with dinner in St Helier’s market at Tavola. We loved the market location, it felt like we’d just stepped into a colourful scene from Mary Poppins and the food was simple, fresh and memorable Italian.
Wine Estate Lunch
One of the unexpected highlights was La Mare Wine Estate.
We stopped here for a wine flight and charcuterie, and it ended up being one of the most relaxed afternoons of the trip.
Pizza on The Beach
Who doesn’t love pizza on the beach in the summer. At Portelet Bay Cafe you can choose from either sitting in the café or grabbing a takeaway and finding a spot on the beach.
3-Day Jersey Itinerary
Here’s our exact itinerary of everything we did during our three day stay. We packed as much as we possibly could in but there’s so much more to do here and if you can go for longer, do!
Day 1 – Arrival, History & Michelin Dining
Flight from Heathrow to Jersey
Brunch at Locke’s in St Helier
Visit to the
(incredible insight into island history)
Check-in at The Club Hotel & Spa
Afternoon spa and pool time
Michelin Starred dinner and cocktails at Bohemia
A slow but perfectly balanced first day: history, relaxation, and a standout dining experience.
Day 2 – Coastal Walks, Wine & Village Pubs
Bus to Bouley Bay (25 mins from St Helier)
Coastal hike along the cliffs to Rozel
Stop in Rozel for views and a break
Wine tasting at La Mare Wine Estate, tours area also available here.
Stroll from the vineyard through the lanes to the village of St Mary’s
Drink at St Mary’s village pub
Relaxed evening back at the hotel pool
Casual dinner in St Helier’s Markey at Tavola
This was arguably the most “Jersey” feeling day with wild coastline, quiet villages and slow travel.
Day 3 – Cycling the Island & Beach Stops
Electric bike hire from Lakey’s Bike Hire in St Helier (go for the electric option, it’s illy!)
Stop at Elizabeth Castle viewpoints
Coffee and explore St Aubin
Cycle toward Corbière Lighthouse
Stop at Le Corbière and explore WWII German bunkers
Jersey ice cream stop with lighthouse views at Corbiere
Swim at Beauport Beach
Pizza at Portelet Beach
Evening flight home
We loved whizzing around on our electric bikes, seeing as much of Jersey as we could and honestly we didn’t want to go home.
What Surprised Us the Most
The biggest surprise wasn’t one single moment, it was how different each part of Jersey felt within such a small area and how much there was to do.
You move from:
Dramatic cliffs and lighthouses
To WWII history and bunkers
To vineyards and quiet countryside
To beaches that feel almost Mediterranean (in the sunshine)
Jersey completely exceeded expectations.
We expected a quiet weekend break. What we got was a destination with real variety, incredible food, and some of the most underrated coastal scenery in the UK travel sphere.
It’s easy, accessible, and perfect for a 3-day escape. If Jersey isn’t already on your list, it probably should be.
